Since the inclusion of Riot Shields in successive Call of Duty editions, they’ve faced criticism from many players. Particularly, because of the splendid defense they equip a player with. For instance, you could be emptying your guns’ ammunition on a running player (equipped with a Riot Shield) and they’d still somehow manage to escape—frustrating!
All these years, there have been multiple counters to these defensive walls that at least one random player equips in a public match lobby, some being more effective than others. In this guide, we’ll walk you over the most effective strategies against a Riot Shield at different distances in COD MW3, along with a bonus tip at the end.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Zombies are wondering what they need to do with the Giraffe Toy, and here is what they need to know.
When you’re up and close with a Riot Shield, one of the best strategies you can do is simply jump and knife or melee them.
The best part here is that you can perform the melee action in multiple ways, as mentioned below:
The execution of each of these three methods remains the same. Having a Stun or Flash Grenade as your Tactical Equipment here is also an excellent way to guarantee a kill with this method.
Another trick you can use, and which is more straightforward than the former, is the use of the JAK Limb Ripper Attachment you can equip on most Primary Weapons. However, the trick here is to crank the Chainsaw rather than merely using it as a Melee—this also guarantees a kill.
In cases when you can’t reach a Riot Shield, i.e., you’re at a 10-meter (or more) distance from it, the best option here is to use your Lethal Equipment. You can use one of these three pieces of equipment:
Each of these Lethal Equipments guarantees a kill in almost every situation, though Drill Charge doesn’t always get the job done. The best Lethal Equipment out of the three is the Thermite, not because of its explosive damage, that’s something each of these equipments have—but due to its trajectory.
The importance of a trajectory can be understood by the distance, where you won’t always get a precise aim at your enemy, so having the advantage that the Thermite grants you can surely make a difference.
You can also use Underbarrel attachments that come equipped with these explosives. For instance, the Drill Charge Underbarrel, which essentially throws a drill charge at enemy players on a trajectory.
The Soulrender weapon rolled out with the Season 2 Reloaded Update in COD MW3. This weapon is undoubtedly the best way to counter the Riot Shield. You don’t have to do fancy movements or even jump, just get close to the player and perform a heavy attack to engage in the killing animation.
