Tigard police temporarily closed off a wing of Washington Square mall on Monday after a suspected shoplifter pepper sprayed a store manager who was escorting the person away, according to police reports.
The spray hit the manager in the face and then wafted toward others, injuring a few shoppers. One of them called police.
No one reported major injuries — just minor irritation.
But police are investigating, including by reviewing surveillance footage of the incident, said Kelsey Anderson, a spokesperson for Tigard police. They have made no arrests.
“We’re thankful there weren’t any significant injuries here,” said Anderson. “We’re still working to continue to identify the person responsible.”
